H_303: “The Seashore Rise”, Glyfada, Greece
Located in Glyfada, Greece and 800m far from the sea. ‘The Seashore Rise’ is a new residential building designed by 314 Architecture Studio and developed by Euphoria Residencies. The project takes shape over a 592.29 sqm plot of land and includes four residences spanning six levels. Inspired by the organic essence of petals and sea waves, envisioned the building as flowing upwards, each level draped in curving lines. The project stands as an experiment, both in terms of construction and the space the architecture takes in the city. We tried to adapt the concepts of movement and flow to the scale of a residence.
Specifically, the team at 314 architecture studio designed each floor of ‘The Seashore Rise’ as an abstracted variation of a petal formation. The resulting design reveals a stack of volumes that seemingly mutate and expand/contract in response to one another, creating an architectural body that mimics a living organism. Program-wise, these volumetric expansions are designed, at certain points, when indoor privacy is most needed. Furthermore, the border with the city that is usually formulated with a railing, acquires body, materiality, and volume. It grows, expands, and gets activated into a dynamic element. The double height of the ground floor residence releases the petals from the ground area.
The materiality and layout of interior and exterior spaces at ‘The Seashore Rise’ is centered around the application of a white reflective finish defining the main structure. For example, Spanish Benadresa tiles, with a high degree of reflection, were used for the floors and bathrooms in Cararra Statarario; custom built oak wardrobes were created for the bedrooms; lastly, pools and artificial lakes are integrated into the balconies, camouflaged by the organic volumes.
In the perimeter of the pilotis we added U-glass which protects the interior and at the same time offers sneak peeks to guests outside wanting to enter the house. The building is mostly finished in white calacata marble, giving it an elegant and sophisticated look adding to the illusion of a building. the material highlights the thin floor slabs. Another key material of the project are the mirrors that cover the columns which make the interior spaces become more open and reflect the apartment’s exterior views.
