H3_Private Villa in Pikermi
The H3 private residence is located in the suburbs of Athens, Greece, on a 7000 m2 plot. The house has a total area of 1000 m2 and is designed with water as its core element. Inspired by the client’s love of yachts, 314 Architecture Studio aimed to create a sense of balance between land and water. The artificial ponds surrounding the building contribute to a cooling sensation.
An essential aspect of the project was its bioclimatic design. The building is oriented to allow the sun to warm up the space in winter, while ventilation extracts warm air to cool it in summer. Geothermal energy is used to power the cooling and heating systems through coil fans. Rainwater is collected via a drainage system and stored in a tank to fulfill the plot’s irrigation needs. Additionally, water for the artificial ponds and pool comes from a well. Solar panels installed at the rear side of the plot generate electricity, while spiral heat exchangers warm the pool water using solar energy.
Constructed with the latest eco-friendly materials, the interior furniture is tailored to the client’s needs. The design aims to create a luxurious, ergonomic environment with clean lines and a minimalist aesthetic. LED lights are strategically placed to enhance the futuristic atmosphere. The building’s surroundings feature wall sculptures by sculptor John Aspras, adding an artistic, abstract touch.
The architecture, construction materials, and technologies align with a highly dynamic, modern residence that prioritizes environmental sustainability. H3 was recognized as one of the twenty most popular projects on the ArchDaily architecture website in 2013. It was also nominated for both the Mies Van Der Rohe Awards and the Piranesi Awards in 2015, and won first prize at the Greek publication “KTIRIO” celebration for 30 Years of Architecture in 2016. H3 has served as a filming location for documentaries from Argentina and Qatar, as well as numerous product TV commercials.
